Shivapuri Village is situated on the northern face of one of the hills that surrounds the Kathmandu valley. A northerly drive from the city center of Kathmandu will take you to the foothills of Shivapuri Hill at Budhanilkantha. A check-post manned by the army for the National Park is reached after a two km uphill drive from the foothills. It is the entrance to the Shivapuri National Park.

A further two km drive and the black top road finishes and a nine km stretch of dusty road lies ahead. The drive passes through the village of Dandagaon, then to Gurje Bhanjyang after a few kilometers of bumpy ride. An amazing view of mountains, distant hills and valleys greets you once you reach the other side.

The final two km of the road is maintained by Shivapuri Village itself. As the Village nears, a short downhill drive passes through the boundary of the national park and into the premises of Shivapuri Village.
